We are less than 30 days away from touching down in Hawaii for Global Gathering 2017, and the race is well and truly on to grab those final places!
From novices through to Flightie veterans, everyone is really upping-the-ante to get their arses to Global and the FCTG Facebook Group has been filling up with stories of success.
Lauren Harvey, from Flight Centre Cottesloe, qualified for Global in her novice year and said ‘to qualify as a 20 year old feels amazing. It is definitely a huge accomplishment and I am even more stoked that I will be 21 and able to party in the States!”
In her eyes, “the hardest part of getting to global was holding onto motivation through some rough times. We had an accident in our store where a car quite literally drove through our office in my first month. (We were all ok, just a shock) However this meant that for 6 weeks as I was just starting out I had no walk in enquiry. I contemplated quitting several times but I am so so glad I held on because I now know what I am capable of.
“A lot of hard work goes into this job so I am excited to be surrounded by so many successful people to celebrate our achievements!”
Another lucky Global attendee this year is Lauren Potter, Team Leader at Flight Centre Hamilton Harbour, who became a Flightie in 2010 and has never been to Global before. She qualified as an individual ($220k transfer) and as a Team Leader AND a month early!
After 7 years as a Flightie, Lauren is rightly proud of herself. She said “There really hasn’t been any secret to success, just hard work and a lot of it – outside of hours, on RDO’s, being on call for any booking I could get because everything helps.”
For Lauren it took complete focus, and she didn’t have much time for other things. “I did improve over $70k on last year to qualify so it’s a big jump.” she said, “I guess that’s the hardest part, all the extra time and tears and stress it brought, and not having the work life balance to counter it. Its very hard, I see why a lot of people don’t get there.”

P.S If you’ve got your spot to Global sorted, make sure you’ve got everything you need to travel…It may sound silly, but Is your passport valid? And do you have a current and \valid ESTA (where applicable)? Check yours now!
- Remember, ONLY use the official site to obtain your ESTA or check the status of your ESTA (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/application.html?execution=e1s1) AND if you have changed or renewed your passport since your last ESTA, you will need a new one.
- Do you need a visa? If you fulfill certain criteria that make you ineligible for an ESTA (or other automatic entry), you may need a visa.
- Ensure that the process is started and your visa interview is well before the travel date for Global.
- If you do need a visa, apply for a five year one, not one with a 12 month validity.
- Remember, without the valid travel documentation, you will not be going to Hawaii!
